Wordplay – One Day Late

Written by: Tom Sawyer

Please excuse us for being absent yesterday.  Work, home, school and most importantly a little girl have us craving two additional hours in a day.  But those things don’t keep the world from rotating and things happen that need to talk about.

See if you can respond to these subjects in 5 words or less; I know it is hard sometimes, but try anyway.

***After thinking about some of the issues below, who cares about 5 words!  Some of these issues may need much more.

  1. Did President Obama finally turn tough?
  2. Is adding Ellen Degeneres to American Idol a sign of desperation?
  3. Does Oprah Winfrey have too much Power?
  4. Is this a day of mourning for Women across America?
  5. Should anything happen to Joe Wilson?

My thoughts:

  1. Instead of looking at the message first I look at how the message was delivered.  Although I support Obama, I don’t think we need another nice speech.  We know he has a very nice delivery, but it is about time he gets a little tougher with his words.  He has been attacked like no other president in my lifetime and I’m tired of seeing him take it with a smile.
  2. As soon as the fourth judge was added last season I knew Paula Abdul was out.  Her odd behavior had run its course and it was time for her to either change drastically or go.  She didn’t change so she had to go.  Ellen Degeneres is just the kind of judge mainstream America wants and could be a reason I don’t watch the show in the future.  She will add corny one-liners and that is about it.  They might as well add Dennis Miller while they are at it!
  3. Yes, Oprah has too much power.  Whatever Oprah likes becomes the new hot thing.  Women all across the country hang on her every word and it is sickening.
  4. The NFL season starts tonight.  Yes, it is that time of year again ladies!
  5. OK, so Joe Wilson yells, “You lie” right in the middle of the president’s speech.  This happens in congress!  I’m almost speechless because of where this happened and how much press Bush received when someone threw a shoe at him.  I think there should be some kind of disciplinary action taken since this was a member of congress.  But I’m sure these spoken words were in the hearts of many others.

    1. yes as much as possible
    2. was hot, not, now hot
    3. all she can buy
    4. no, stand by your man
    5. re election, lack of decorum, not criminal

  2. Kathy Curry Says:

    1. They made him finally exhibit toughness! He had it all along!
    2. All I wanna know is, will she come out dancing every week! I love to see Ellen dance, but really, AI is not the platform for her and her talents!
    3. Ironically I heard a story, in passing, a few weeks ago saying Oprah is loosing her power.
    4. My phone conversations with my son will now become limited and Sunday visits are out of the question! :o (
    5. OMG! He has one of the most prestigious jobs in the US. Bad behavior shouldn’t be allowed in such settings!

  3. Tom Sawyer Says:

@Kent Smith – What do you mean about re-election? Lack of decorum to say the least.
A thought just came to my mind: with all the people in the room, how was the camera on him at the moment he made this outburst? Do they have a camera on everyone (unlikely) or was this planned? Yes, I introduced a possible conspiracy theory. Does anyone have a past event that rivals this? No, don’t include the shoe because it didn’t happen in the US and it should have hit the mark.

  4. Kathy Curry Says:

@Tom Sawyer – ROTFL! it should have hit the mark! too funny!

  5. Ryan Kazinec Says:

1.) More desperate than tough – The message was construed tougher but it’s still virtually (with a few tweaks) the same plan and I will never support a public option.
2.) I love Ellen, so no
3.) Absolutely and she abused the hell out of it with the “I pledge” video. http://www.jealousbrother.com/rivalries/?rivalryID=434
4.) Absolutely not, may be disrespectful but it’s happened before. He is obviously passionately opposed to the Presidents plan and believes he is lying to the American people. I must say Bush actually handled the following outburst better than Obama did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBxmEGG71PM

  6. Ryan Kazinec Says:

Correction on 3.) I was probably a bit unfair. It wasn’t a pure abuse of power but certainly was some very biased propaganda. The real abuse of power was the school official who showed the video to the students without parental approval.

This will make sense once my comment that’s awaiting moderation is approved.

  7. Ryan Kazinec Says:

    Oh my I’m off tonight.
4.) was meant for 5.) and in response to 4.) Bring on the football, it’s what my tv was made for. Sorry ladies.

  8. Kim Sawyer Says:

    1) Obama has a lot of animosity to deal with – he’s getter better at handling it.
    2) Ellen has NO experience whatsoever to judge up and coming singers – This decision was based on the popularity of a talk show host, rather than choosing someone who can actually add constructive criticism.
    3) What’s too much power? Just because people trust her judgement? Hmmm…..
    4) Not at all – bring it on!
    5) This was a farce! It was scripted and planned way in advance! He was just the chosen one to perform the script! It was strictly to distract people from listening to Obama. Should anything happen to him because he was the ‘chosen’ one for that day to heckle the president? Let him continue to be berated (especially by his peers)! What a frickin’ joke!
