Will Smith Is All That (and more)…..

I admit it – I am a Will Smith fan. I think he is the epitome of a well-rounded entertainer. I remember when he first came on to the scene as a rapper — in 1988 — with the song, Parents Just Don’t Understand, which won the first Rap grammy. About two years later, he starred in his own TV show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which was my favorite TV show. I thought he was sooooooo cute and funny!
Will then moved up from TV to movies. His first movie debut was the Six Degrees of Separation, but he also appeared in Made in America with Whoopi Goldberg and Nia Long in the same year. But it wasn’t until he made Bad Boys with Martin Lawrence that I realized Will Smith was a bonafide star! From that point on, I would go to the movies to see whatever movie Will Smith was in. Since 1993, Will has been in 17 movies and I’ve seen every one of them. Yes, I even saw Wild, Wild West, which was horrible, but it didn’t matter because Will was in it. I know some of you understand what I’m talking about.
Another thing I love about Will Smith is that he is a family man. In all of the interviews I’ve seen with him and his wife Jada, you can tell he loves his wife and kids. And I think that’s wonderful! He is not afraid to publicly show the love he has for his family. Not too many men can (or will) do that for fear they’ll look “soft,” but that’s another subject all together!
Will just released a new film, Hancock, and I will be going to see that one too! Some of the reviews are not that good, but who cares. It’s Will Smith! All of the Will Smith fans out there, let me hear from you. Do you like him better as a rapper or a movie star or does it matter simply because it’s Will? Let’s talk about this……….

I like him better as a movie star because his rap career got whack pretty fast. The “Gangsta” rap era left people like Will Smith looking soft and when he did make the occasional song (Miami) it was successful because of his movie career – many people only know of Will Smith the rapper because of Will Smith the actor. I would even go so far as to say there are people who watched the TV show and still didn’t know the Fresh Prince was his rapping name.
Will Smith and Tom Cruise have one thing in common: they may not always get the best reviews, but they put people in theaters. How many people went to see Days of Thunder or whatever that horrible racing movie was Tom Cruise was in? What about that horrific movie with Nicole Kidman (the other one, I know she was in Days of Thunder)?

Will Smith was very entertaining and his music was fun and clean, however he was lost a whole lot of appeal since getting brainwashed by the scientologists, hopefully he will be strong enough as I believe he is and break away from that corporate cult.

I like Will Smith as an actor and sometimes as a rapper. I think he should concentrate on acting and leave the music alone, unless it’s the old stuff.

Hi Xenu and welcome to 7DayBuzz:–). I too have heard/read about him now being a scientologist. Now, as a Christian, I don’t agree with their philosophy, but do you think he’s now being termed a “scientologist” because of his friendship with Tom Cruise, who we all know is a documented scientologist?
Also, let’s just say it’s true about Will now being a scientologist, how does that take away from his skills as an actor?

Will Smith is someone who no matter his sucess has remained grounded, how many stories do you hear of him throwing temper tantrums or making outrageous demands because he is famous ? None

Will is just a cool dude. Most of his movies are good because he puts his cool on them and they turn out to be good, except ‘wild wild west’. His rap is cool also, not gangster or curse filled. Summertime was nice. After all, he was the fresh prince.

Will Smith has a creative comic timing that is rare among young actors. As you watch him you realize he is better at acting than many his age, I look forward to Hancock. But then again I am move fan, not a movie critic fan!

I’m a Will Smith fan also. He has great talent. I like it all. Bought his cd’s and DVD’s. My kids also like his old show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I am Legend was also a great movie, he was in. I will be looking forward to watching Hancock. Thanks for sharing this post with us.

****UPDATE**** Will’s movie, Hancock, came in #1! The film made $107.3 million since opening on July 2, 2008. It cost approximately $150 million to make. Columbia Pictures will easily recoup their investment. By the way, this movie is Will’s 8th consecutive #1. Gotta give the man his credit.

Wow, I didn’t think this one would make that much money. I watched the previews and it wasn’t a movie that I wanted to go and see. I told myself that I would wait until it came on DVD. For me this superhero just wasn’t beliveable. Will is a very good actor but ” I AM Legend” just wasn’t a good movie and it was not realistic but there are times when all actors and actress do not make good or great movies.
Perhaps this one is for the kiddies.. I do think that he is a great actor…

Hey Tori. With Will, I think he has such a huge following and people know, for the most part, his movies are going to be entertaining, that they will go to the movie just to see what it is all about. I think even if you, as the moviegoer, do not like the premise of the movie, you are going to enjoy Will. Which is pretty much what the movie distributors are counting on.

Kim your right about that. I love Tyler Perry and some of his movies haven’t been the best but I will go hoping and praying that Madea will be a part of the movie or the laughter will be there. Will is a great actor and wonderful family man (although I’m on the outside looking in). Your right everyone will go see Will Smith because his Will Smith.

I think Will likes to be the blockbuster actor. Think about it, he either releases around the 4th of July or around Christmas time, which is usually the time distributors release movies they feel are going to be, well, blockbusters.
