We Have To Laugh To Keep From Crying
Written by: Tom Sawyer
If the President can do it, with all the pressure associated with his job/title, why can’t the rest of us? Times are still tough and since there isn’t any quick fix, maybe having a good laugh is the best thing to do. At a minimum, we can temporarily forget about all the bad things going on around us.
Stand Up Comedian
President Obama had some fun this weekend during his speech at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. He joked about what he will accomplish during his next 100 days. He claimed to be able to do all the work in 72 days and rest on the 73rd. He was joking of course, but I like the joke. Who came up with the 100 day review or whatever? Why not the first 6 months or the first year? Are we going to go through this every 100 days until his four years is over?
He also roasted the Vice President, Joe Biden; an easy target for sure, but he surely couldn’t leave the Vice President out. One thing that President Obama’s administration should have learned during the first 100 days is that Biden needs a puppet master by his side at all times. If Biden doesn’t change he will be “that guy” and the President will either have to find a new running mate in 2012 or be on very shaky ground. I say promote Hillary in 3+ years.
Speaking of Hillary, the President joked about how close they are now, but I don’t really get the joke. Maybe someone can help me understand, but I do know one thing: if she “pulled me into a hug and gave me a big kiss” I wouldn’t be telling anyone joking or not. She may be a lot of good things, but I wouldn’t want those lips anywhere near me. Of course I’m a happily married man, but I’m just saying.
Dick Cheney got roasted a little bit too, but I wish we could leave him alone (or out to pasture). Some people are so pitiful that it isn’t even worth talking about them – Biden could very well be headed in this direction if he doesn’t calibrate his mind and his mouth.
What Does It All Mean?
I would say the comments made at this dinner don’t amount to a hill of beans and were probably written by some youngster with a gift for the written word. It was probably a formality/ritual and followed a script where only the names were changed to make it current. Regardless, it would be great if we could all start to get along a little better politically and enjoy ourselves when the opportunity arises. The world seems to be getting worse everyday where crime and the economy is concerned. Talking about the negative constantly seems to bring us all down little by little.
We have 100+ days down and approximately 1360 more to go – unless the POTUS does something really bad.
If our government can take some time out to laugh about some missteps, why can’t we?

I thought Wanda and the President did a wonderful job.

I thought Wanda stepped over the line on several of her “jokes.” It seems that we have some double standards going on here and I wasn't amused. I appreciate good humor but there are boundaries that should not be crossed and I'm appalled that common decency was lacking at a presidential dinner and that so many people think that's acceptable and funny.

Hiya, i’ve been visiting your homepage and it looks really good. I’m building a family site and struggling to make it look great. How hard was it to build your site? Could someone like me, a newbie make that? I really want to write in my site something like that. Just for your info your site seem broken when I visiting using Blackberry.
