TGIF – A Little Bit Of Everything
Written by: Tom Sawyer
I have a little of this and a little of that today. TGIF!
- Have you ever copied an address (URL) from your address bar? I’m on a computer a lot and I just learned that Ctrl-L then Ctrl-C (Command-L and Command-C if you have an Apple computer) will copy the address quickly. Ok, I knew about Ctrl-C, but I didn’t know about using it with Ctrl-L. But if you are using Internet explorer 8 it will not work that way.
- Speaking of IE8, it may be faster than other browsers and it may not be. From what I have been reading it is more secure than IE7 so if you are a die-hard IE user, the upgrade is worth your piece of mind.
- Another simple reason why I like Apple. I have an Apple laptop and I use it unplugged daily. Depending on what program I’m using I may not be able to see how much battery time I have left and Apple has a simple solution to this. There is a little button on the left side that is hardly noticeable along with some tiny green lights. I push the button and it tells me how much juice I have left. Simple, but useful.
- So we moved to Las Vegas and need window coverings in our house. I had planned on ordering online and installing myself all along, but the cable guy had a side gig selling blinds so I let his partner come by and give me a quote. With a serious face this guy told me it would cost $4,000! That is more than twice my budget and ended up being a total waste of my time. Hopefully, I will have all the blinds/cellular shades installed by the time this posts. If not, it is still a lot cheaper doing it myself.
- The former CEO of GM, Rick Wagner, got a retirement package worth $20.2 million. While that seems like a lot, he is getting about $380 million less than an oil executive did a few years ago. Wagner’s package wil be paid out over time meaning he needs to see if he can get a lesser amount right now before GM files for bankrupcy.
- Speaking of GM, I don’t know that there is any hope for them. The only thing I can think of is if someone gave them an ultimatum to design a new car, with new/current technology by a certain date. And it better not be a truck! Short of that, they will still churn out junk until they go under. I feel sorry for all their employees…except for the people in the design department.
- Men, get your “honey do” list done early – March Madness is in full effect this weekend. Oh wait, it isn’t march anymore.
- New house, new carpet and I think static blew out a digital thermostat and a light switch. Wow.
- “It’s going to take a lot of work to clean up the mess we inherited, and passing this budget is a critical step in the right direction,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said. “Staying true to these priorities will help turn around the economy for the many Americans who are underwater right now.” Yes, we are in bad shape, but even I think the best thing to do with the past is leave it in the past. At this point, I think we all realize President Obama was sworn in after this began. Let’s move forward in a positive manner.
