What Pushes Someone Over The Edge?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

There are some unfortunate people in Covina, California who didn’t have a pleasant Christmas.  Actually, there are at least 7 people who didn’t even live to see Christmas this year.  Crimes of passion seem to be more and more common in our society, but come on!

Santa ShootingBruce Pardo, 45, had no criminal record and no history of violence, according to police, but he was angry following last week’s settlement of his divorce after a marriage that lasted barely a year.  The divorce was supposed to be amicable.  Uh, I don’t think that is an accurate description of this divorce!  He was so angry in fact that he went to his in-laws’ Christmas Eve party dressed as Santa Claus and opened fire.  He is believed to have killed at least 6 with gunfire and/or a fire he set with a homemade device.

Can you imagine being related to someone who went to this party and will never live to see another day?  It is hard to imagine someone dying for no reason at all like this.  I’ve already said a prayer for the families involved and I would ask you to do the same.

Perhaps the worst part is he did what many of these sick, cowardly individuals do – he went to his brother’s house and put a bullet in his head.  I wish people who do things like this would stick around and face the music.  Yes he is dead, but I think justice would be better served if he were alive to face the consequences.

Why?

What would push someone over the edge and cause them the think their only option was to kill others and themselves?  What chemical imbalance or mental instability does someone have that makes the brain think this is necessary?  I can only hope and pray an affliction such as this never enters my body, my family’s bodies or anyone I know.

The worst part of this is – there seem to be many “worst” parts to this – occurrences like this are becoming more common.  In fact, I’m sure some people may have came across this article and not even given it much thought.  Where are our morals, our conscience, our compassion and our basic common sense?

What Will O.J. Be Sentenced For?

Monday, October 6th, 2008

O.J. was not convicted of those murders. You know, the murders many people thought he committed years ago.  But he has been convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges for gathering up five men a year ago and storming into a room at a hotel-casino, where the group seized several game balls, plaques and photos.

First the white Bronco and now a hotel room?  If nothing else, O.J. has been involved in some of the dumbest drama the public has every seen…twice.  Oh well.
O.J. Simpson...Guilty! In the public’s mind, this is justice. Somebody finally got O.J. and when it comes time to sentence him (if I’m not mistaken he is appealing) I think he will be sentenced for those murders more so, or just as much as the charges he was convicted of.  If the 61-year-old Pro Football Hall of Famer spends the rest of his life in jail — which is very possible — the majority of Americans will likely shed no tears.  In fact, if he gets a stiff sentence, which I think he will eventually get, there will be some cheers and high-fives in celebration.

What do you think he is going to be sentenced for?  Yes, I know the jury wasn’t supposed to be influenced by the murder cases, but I’m a realist.  Is there really 12 people who have no knowledge or wouldn’t be influenced by the previous trial?  If I was on the jury, I would be upset – you could say highly pissed off.  I would feel this way because the whole thing would be a waste of my time.  I would just be looking at “The Juice” thinking, “How can one person be so stupid in one lifetime?”

Who is paying for his legal fees anyway?  I thought a lot of his money was supposed to be going to Ron Goldman’s family.  If so, how does he afford what is probably an expensive legal bill.  Wasn’t he supposed to have committed these crimes so he could recover some of his valuable possessions?

To add even more confusion, and stupidity, to this whole thing, O.J. wrote a book called “If I Did It” about how he would have committed the murders.  Guess who published the book?  Ron Goldman’s family!!!

I’m confused.  Is the Goldman family happy he has been convicted or would it be better for him to be out and making money?  Besides thinking this whole thing – O.J.’s whole life since 1995 – is stupid, I don’t know what to think.  What do you think?

Does anyone even remember or does it matter anymore that this was a Hall of Fame Football player?

Are Statutes Of Limitation Morally Correct?

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Let’s say someone is kidnapped and eventually killed. Multiply that and make that two people. This being the case, how long should the murderer be accountable for these crimes? Should a statute of limitation apply to someone who committed crimes like these? I say as long as that person is taking a breath they should have to pay for committing such crimes.

Well, James Seale did those things and it is possible that he may go free. This happened many, many years ago but his guilt doesn’t seem to be the issue here. The basic issue is he did these things a long time ago and should get a pass. His failing health is also being considered as if that makes it OK to let him be free. There has to be more to this right? Of course there is.

Seales was, or still is, a member of the Klu Klux Klan. Of course the two victims were black – they may have possibly been weighted down and thrown in the river alive. He wasn’t convicted when it happened, back in the 60s, because the police were believed to be Klan members. Is justice always just?

Not only should he do hard time, he should be sat down in a chair that is connected to some serious juice! I’m not saying this based on color, I’m saying this based on the crimes. He may have not been convicted – or even brought to trial – because of color and now the verdict was changed because of time and old age.

Does that seem right to you?
