We Embrace, Inc. Non-Profit Organization

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

How would you like to help provide a new computer to a graduating high school student who’s next venture is college? You can do this by making a donation to We Embrace, Inc.

We Embrace is a non-profit organization that embraces education and rewards high school students who decide to further their education. We Embrace has been in operation since 2004 and since their inception, have awarded a total six computers (desktops and laptops).

The founders of this organization use their own money to fund this organization, that’s why there is a small number of recipients. This organization would love to be able to expand their giving, but that takes help from people who like to give.

This organization would benefit greatly from a small grant; unfortunately, the founders do not know how to write grants nor do they have the funds to hire someone to write a grant for them. If you know of someone who can write a grant, for free, or at a very charitable price, please let us know and I’ll pass on the information.

Here is the website, www.weembrace.com. Check it out and let us know what you think. The website is very dated. To solve this dilemma, the founders are also looking for someone to update the website — again for free, or at a very reasonable price.

Another Indicator That Change Has Come…..

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

This is why President Obama radiates hope to millions of people.  On Monday, at the town hall meeting in Florida, a woman made the following emotional plea to the president, “I have an urgent need,” said the woman to the president. “We need something more than the vehicle and parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom, please help.”

This plea came from Henrietta Hughes, a Florida homeless woman, who has been living in her car.  In 2003, her son lost his job and soon after, they lost their home.  After making her plea to President Obama, he told her that, “we’re going to do everything we can” and that someone with him would talk to her after the town home meeting.

Well, it seems, after her heart-felt plea, Hughes now has a place to call home – if she so chooses.    Senator Nick Thompson and his wife have offered Hughes a home, in Fort Denaud, Florida, after hearing her story at the town hall.  The home is being offered to Hughes rent-free for as long as she needs it.  It’s a 3-bedroom 2-bath house on three acres of land and it’s been vacant for more than a year.

After offering Hughes the home, Senator Thomson makes this following statement,  ”I’m not a millionaire, I’m not rich, but this is what I can do for someone if they need it.  We’re American.  That’s what we’re supposed to do for each other.  We’re supposed to help each other.  So if I can help her, I will.”

Hughes is expected to look at the house for the first time in the next few days.

How wonderful is this?!!!!  Isn’t this truly a blessing from heaven above?!  This is what America and being an American is all about!  America was founded on Godly principles (one of them being charity) and I love it when Americans display their generosity.  It’s uplifting and inspirational.  Well-done Obama!  And last, but certainly not least, well-done Senator Nick Thomson and wife!

Things That Make You Go Hmmmm……

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

On Saturday, January 10, 2009, in Anchorage, Alaska, a convicted sex offender came forward to claim a $500,000 jackpot.  Okay, that’s not bad, right?  But, here’s the “things that make you go hmmmm” part:  The jackpot was the result of an Alaska lottery, called Lucky Time Pull Tabs, that donates its proceeds to a nonprofit group, Standing Together Against Rape, which, among other services, offers support to sexual assault victims!  It seems that the convicted sex offender is a two-time offender as he was convicted in 1993 and 2000 for sexual abuse of a minor!

According to Nancy Haag, the nonprofit’s executive director, “It’s not how we had envisioned the story going.”  Uh, Nancy, that is the understatement of the year (so far anyway).  According to FBI statistics, Alaska has the highest per capita number of rape cases in the United States.  Haag further stated, “With a ranking that high, it’s ironic that the person who wins is a convicted sex offender.”

Efforts to reach lottery organizer Abe Spicola, who owns Lucky Times Pull Tabs, were unsuccessful late Monday. But Spicola told the Anchorage Daily News that the winner “was going to buy a house and said he was going to donate part of it to God, and, you know, charity.”

Talk about irony, right?
