Collector Alert…..

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Obama Spider-ManTo all you comic book collectors, Marvel Comics has announced it will feature president-elect Barack Obama in Marvel Comic’s Amazing Spider-Man #583, said Joe Quesada, Marvel’s editor-in-chief.  Obama is being featured because of his love for Spider-Man comic books as a child.  “How great is that? The commander in chief to be is actually a nerd in chief,” Quesada said. “It was really, really cool to see that we had a geek in the White House. We’re all thrilled with that.”

The comic starts with Spider-Man’s alter-ego Peter Parker taking photographs at the inauguration, before spotting two identical Obamas, according to the Associated Press.  Parker decides “the future president’s gonna need Spider-Man,” and springs into action, using basketball to determine the real Obama and punching out the impostor. Obama thanks him with a fist-bump.

#583 will be available in comic book shops nationwide on January 14, 2009 for $3.99 and is expected to sell out, with half the covers devoted to Obama.

A Hope, A Wish And A Prayer

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Our economy is suffering, our school systems are questionable, natural and man-made disasters are all around us, crime is at an all-time high and our morals seem to be as low as ever.  We clearly need some things to take a positive spin.  But we knew this was coming and here we go.

What kind of adults would have and/or allow to chant about killing someone?  I think that speaks directly to where our morals are and what is allowed to go on in school systems that clearly need to be more $elective – teachers need to make more for this to happen so the “$” is not an accident.  Paying teachers more will draw better teachers and will result in a smarter nation (my opinion).

From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.

What and who this refers to is poor sportsmanship, poor losers and (again) questionable morals.  Specifically, this is the type behavior on the rise since Barack Obama was elected President of the United States.

There is a large subset of white people in this country who feel that they are losing everything they know, that the country their forefathers built has somehow been stolen from them.

Like cancer in remission, racism is never totally wiped out it is just not out in the open.  The election has changed that for many.  For example, Grant Griffin, a 46-year-old white Georgia native, said, “I believe our nation is ruined and has been for several decades and the election of Obama is merely the culmination of the change.  If you had real change it would involve all the members of (Obama’s) church being deported.”

“The day after the vote hailed as a sign of a nation changed, black high school student Barbara Tyler of Marietta, Ga., said she heard hateful Obama comments from white students, and that teachers cut off discussion about Obama’s victory.

Tyler spoke at a press conference by the Georgia chapter of the NAACP calling for a town hall meeting to address complaints from across the state about hostility and resentment. Another student, from a Covington middle school, said he was suspended for wearing an Obama shirt to school Nov. 5 after the principal told students not to wear political paraphernalia.

The student’s mother, Eshe Riviears, said the principal told her: “Whether you like it or not, we’re in the South, and there are a lot of people who are not happy with this decision.”

I’m not going to give some of these racists the satisfaction of even listing all the terrible things that have went on since the election.

I can respect someone who has a problem with the policies and plans Obama has for our country, but racism is just wrong regardless of who the target is.  I hope we can get through this without anyone, including the president-elect, getting killed.

When Bush was elected and astonishingly re-elected, people who didn’t vote for him basically lived through 8 years where they had to shut up and color.  Well, there will be plenty of crayons to go around.  :D

The Plots to Assassinate Barack Obama Begins….

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I just heard on my local news station here in Mississippi that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has broken up TWO plots to kill Obama. In addition, these groups were going to go on a Tennessee murder spree, killing 102 Black people by either shooting them or decapitating them. These groups are located in Tennessee and they are described as Neo-Nazi skinheads. In my opinion, this is not going to stop – these types of threats and plots. They are just going to intensify! Case in point, didn’t someone yell the N word at a McCain-Palin rally? To all of those people who think racism is not alive and well — think again!

I’m Not Saying Country Music Singer Toby Keith is a Racist, But He Has Racist Ways!

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

I’m just going to jump right into this.  There are two things that Mr. Keith has done in the last week or so to show he has racist tendencies.  The first one involves Mr. Keith performing a song on the Colbert Report, a news-parody show, which is shown on the Comedy Central cable channel, advocating lynching.  I just so happened to stumble on a blog discussing this.  Why haven’t the major networks reported on this?  Why isn’t this headline news?  Where is the uproar about this?  Just to give you a taste of what Mr. Keith performed on the show, here are some of the lyrics of his lynching song:

“We got too many gangsters
Doing dirty deeds
Too much corruption
And crime in the streets
It’s time the long arm of the law
Put a few more in the ground
Send them all to their Maker
And he’ll set them on down
You can bet, He’ll set ‘em down”

“Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree
Round up all of them bad boys
And hang ‘em high in the street
For all the people to see”

WTH?!!!  Lynching is one of the most despicable, racist acts that has occurred in America’s history! Why in the world would someone write a song advocating lynching if they didn’t have racist ways?  Oh, before I forget, Mr. Keith is supposed to perform this same lynching song on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and other nationally televised talk shows.  Again, I ask WTH?!!!!!!

The second racist tendency Mr. Keith has shown concerns his comments about Barack Obama.  Now, I will be the first to say I’m still not totally sold on Obama, but these comments by Mr. Keith are ridiculous.  It seems that on July 30, 2008, Mr. Keith appeared on radio jock Glenn Beck’s show.  During a conversation about the presidential race, Mr. Keith said, “I think the Black people would say he [Obama] don’t talk, act or carry himself as a Black person.”  Mr. Beck asked, “What does that even mean?” and Mr. Keith’s genius response was, “Well, I don’t know what that means, but I think that that’s what they would say.  Even though the Black society would pull for him I still think that they think in the back of their mind that the only reason he is in [the general election] is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian.”

Now, I know this is a lot to take in, but can you believe this?!!!!  We’re talking about a man who advocates lynching!  How would he know the mindset of a Black person? I am at a loss for words.  You know what?  Please help me to understand this type of thinking.  I once again ask, WTH?!!!!!

We Have Two New SuperHeroes Folks: Obama and McCain!

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Well, as you all know, today is Entertainment Chatter on 7daybuzz. And quite a few people think that comic books are entertaining. So, what would you say (or for that matter do) if you saw a comic book for sale, featuring presidential hopefuls John McCain or Barack Obama?  Well, if you’ve never thought about this before, you probably want to start thinking about it.

A San Diego-based publisher is about to release comic books based on the life stories of presumptive presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain.  ”We’re not doing anything that is sensational here,” IDW special projects editor Scott Dunbier told the Associated Press, adding that neither campaign had anything to do with the projects. “We’re sticking to the facts.”

The books, which are independently researched and illustrated by a veteran team of writers and artists, will be available online, via cell phones and in comic book shops beginning Oct. 8.

According to the Associated Press, Obama’s biography is being written by novelist Jeff Mariotte (Superman, Spider-Man, Star Trek), and drawn by artist Tom Morgan. J. Scott Campbell did both covers; each features its candidate in the classic superhero pose of squared shoulders and fists on hips with an American flag in the background.

So 7daybuzz readers, what do you think? Would you buy these comic books for your kids? They might just turn out to be collector items as, if I’m not mistaken, this is the first time presidential candidates will have their own comic books. This is truly something that makes you go, hmmmmmm.

Is Obama’s Nomination Hurting Affirmative Action?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Affirmative action has always been and will always be a hot topic.  People either love it or hate it.  I don’t think there is a medium.  Unfortunately and whether people want to admit it, race is still a prevalent factor in how people are treated in America.  And although race relations in America are much better than they were, let’s say 40 or 50 years ago, we, as Americans still have a long ways to go.  Hence, the reason I believe affirmative action is still very much important in our society.  Of course, there are so many people who disagree with me.  For example, in 2006, the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action in Parents v. Seattle and Meredith v. Jefferson.  In these two cases, the Supreme Court was bitterly divided and ruled 5–4 that programs in Seattle and Louisville, Ky., which tried to maintain diversity in schools by considering race when assigning students to schools, are unconstitutional.

Now, I know you’re wondering how this relate to Obama’s nomination.  Yesterday, I was reading an article on cnn.com.  Here’s an excerpt from that article, “Barack Obama’s political success might claim an unintended victim: affirmative action, a much-debated policy he supports.  Already weakened by several court rulings and state referendums, affirmative action now confronts a challenge to its very reason for existing. If Americans make a black person the leading contender for president, as nationwide polls suggest, how can racial prejudice be so prevalent and potent that it justifies special efforts to place minorities in coveted jobs and schools?  “The primary rationale for affirmative action is that America is institutionally racist and institutionally sexist,” said Ward Connerly, the leader of state-by-state efforts to end what he and others consider policies of reverse discrimination. “That rationale is undercut in a major way when you look at the success of Senator Clinton and Senator Obama.”  Other critics of affirmative action agree. “Obama is further evidence that the great majority of Americans reject discrimination, reject prejudice,” said Todd F. Gaziano, a scholar at the conservative Heritage Foundation and a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.”  To read the entire article, click here:  http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/06/28/affirmative-action-hurt-by-obamas-success/

I think the people who believe Obama’s nomination is proof that affirmative action is no longer needed are out of touch with reality.  Even though Obama won the nomination, he hasn’t won the race yet.  Not to mention that there are many people who say they will not vote for Obama simply because he is a Black man.  The people who are for Obama are looking for a change and believe Obama is the man to bring that change about.  Simply put, the people for Obama are not just for him because of his race.

What are your thoughts on this subject?  Do you think Obama’s nomination is hurting affirmative action?  Or will his nomination help affirmative action?  I wold love to hear your comments/thoughts…….
