Now That Is What I Call Taxing!
Written by: Tom Sawyer
I’m settling in at the new house, I’m getting used to not putting on a uniform and I’m growing a goatee so right now life is pretty good. I do miss the people I worked with, but I expected that. Basically, I’m exhausted. On to what is on my mind.
So my boss tells me I’m getting a $100,000 bonus…then I find out I’m only going to see $10,000 of it. How should I feel? Should I be upset that so much of my money is going to be gone or should I be thankful for getting 10%. Oh, one more thing – my company got the money to give me my bonus from the taxpayers.
Wow.
If the stories I’m reading are true, I have to call a foul (I can do that, I’m a basketball ref) on the Democrats. I read an article that said some of the Republicans saw something like this happening and their concerns went unheard.
90% is a hefty tax, but it makes sense if the money used to pay bonuses came from the bailout. I think the tax should be 99.99% especially since some of the AIG employees who received the bonus were allegedly the same people who almost ran the company into the ground.
I think taxing this way sends the correct message although provisions for this could have been in the legislation before the money was given out. But I think they could have raised the tax 9.99%.

This is the tip of the iceberg.
This money was a loan to aig not a stock purchase. If congress wants to run the company make it a stock purchase. Congress has no legal right to do what they are doing. If this bill passes the senate look for many people to sue because of the
unconstitutionality of the law. The congress should never target tax. ” If it is good for one it is good for all” that will be the
thought process when it comes to the next exposure of their ineptitude. NO ONE READ THE BAILOUT BILL……if they read the
bill, which we pay them to do, they would have known about the bonus plan.. now we know they are not doing their jobs
and want to cover their tracks.
I say you should keep all the money you have earned and fight for the right of everyone to keep theirs. congress made
a deal with aig and should live with it. This problem is rooted in congress and their belief that it is their money…it is not
their money…. it is our money and all they do is take it from us..government never produces anything.. it just takes
from the people………..freedom first…

Congrats on the new job. I agree with Kent. We (mostly unlearned) tend to go along with what sounds right. However, there are fundamental concepts being violated.
We the people need to check our emotions and start our quest towards knowledge, understanding, and wisdom! (Ignorance is not an opinion.)

Although I am furious about this entire AIG thing, I am equally concerned about this tax being imposed on the bonuses. They are saying that it will only affect those who received bail out money but what if they decide to start imposing taxes on whoever they think should be paying more. When did our money become theirs? They are already imposing taxes on many things that we all use every day and I fear this is only the beginning.

I agree about the things we are taxed on. I think it is ridiculous to some extent. In this case I think it is warranted though. The better thing to do would be to prevent it from happening in the first place, but that says something about our government.

I agree that congress is responsible for the deal they made. We should not be penalized for them not reading the entire bailout bill. As usual, the American people are taking the hit for government officials who fall short.
