Milking Those 15 Minutes…Adam Lambert
Written by: Tom Sawyer
This is what Adam Lambert said on his CBS Early Show appearance today:
Lambert said on the show that he believes he has been unfairly attacked because he is a gay man, and he blamed parents upset with his performance for letting their kids watch the American Music Awards without supervision.
“It’s a double whammy — I think it’s because I’m a gay male, and I think people haven’t seen it before,” Lambert said about the negative response that has erupted over his Sunday night AMA performance.
Lambert said on “The Early Show” that it wasn’t his responsibility to worry about what kids were watching at home. “I’m not a baby sitter. I’m a performer,” he said. “It didn’t cross my mind, children. It was almost 11 o’clock. It was a nighttime show. I was there in an audience full of mostly adults.”
Lambert pointed out that other performers at the awards show indulged in some not-so-child-friendly behavior as well.
“Lady Gaga smashing whiskey bottles, Janet Jackson grabbing a male dancer’s crotch, Eminem talking about how Slim Shady has 17 rapes under his belt — there was a lot of very adult material on the AMAs this year, and I know I wasn’t the only one,” Lambert said.
I think this “guy” has got to go and I will be glad when his 15 minutes of fame are over. Check this out, I don’t have a problem with him being gay because it doesn’t affect me at all, but I do have a problem with him acting gay. Does that make sense? He can do whatever he wants to do, but if something he chooses to do in his life is out of the norm, I think he should keep it to himself. Sorry fellas, but when I see two women kissing it does not fulfill any fantasy I have; it is still something I find unnatural. Fortunately, I still have yet to see Lambert’s act and I will probably watch it right after I finish watching Brokeback Mountain….Uh, never!
I didn’t like him on American Idol because I knew he was a diva then and he has proven me right. He knew what he did would attract attention and he is getting it big time. Shoot, I’m giving him some attention right now, but this will soon be over.
I’m actually growing weary of the whole American thing. You just cannot convince me that the people who make it to the finals deserve to be there. I know how the voting process goes, but I would think all the voters would wise up at some point.

Tom, I never figured you to be a homo-phobe, but you just came out of the gay hating closet with this post.
You should watch Brokeback Mountain. It’s just a film, it’s not going to “infect” you with the gay. When I watched the film, I found it interesting how two men, both with beautiful spouses, could sexually desire one another, but then that’s because I’m heterosexual. Watching the film, and seeing gay people being gay doesn’t affect me in any way.
The political point of the film, I feel, is to motivate for greater acceptance of gay people in a society that has deep prejudices against them, especially in red neck states. Sort of like how red necks also hate black people. Basically, you’re acting like a red neck when you hate gays.
For me, the film asks me to imagine how messed up my life would be if I lived in a society which hated heterosexuals, forced me to marry a man, whilst in reality my true love was a beautiful woman I’d met. It would be a nightmare, and yet that is what a prejudiced society has forced upon gay people for centuries. Kind of like the discrimination shown to black people by whites for centuries.
Seriously, it’s not cool to express public hatred for gays, even though it is your constitutional right.

Richard,
Thank you for your comment, but you missed the point entirely. I don’t hate gay people and I’m not a homo-phobe. Notice where your comment was focused: you never said anything about me saying it doesn’t turn me on to see two women kissing. The only thing you focused on was what you think is my hatred towards gay men.
I don’t know how many gay people I’ve actually come into contact with because that isn’t something I look for and distance myself from. I do know about several and it really doesn’t matter all that much to me. What does matter is when someone like Lambert feel as though they have to make a statement to draw attention to themselves. Did you read it when I said this, “…I don’t have a problem with him being gay because it doesn’t affect me at all, but I do have a problem with him acting gay.”
Comparing hatred for gays to blacks doesn’t make sense to me. For one, to think some people are born gay, like black people are born black, opens up a large debate.
Maybe it is my fault for not focusing more on the fact that I didn’t like Lambert from the start. I asked my wife the other day if he came out of the closet because I didn’t really know. I thought he brought way too much drama to the show (American Idol) from the beginning and did little more than yell out songs.
You are wrong on this one buddy.

Tom, I’m glad we’re having this discussion. I did pick what I was going to respond to. I am in agreement with you on woman engaging in lesbian kissing. The words of this generation, “OMG! That’s sooo hott!” doesn’t describe my reaction to it.
I did indeed read your statement where you said you had a problem with gays acting gay. You want to impose your norms on them, and that is oppression.
I believe that the discrimination shown towards gays is the same as discrimination shown towards black people. I believe that gay people are born that way. But, even if it were their choice, it should not matter.
For instance, conservative white people the world over had / have a huge problem with Jacob Zuma, the president of South Africa, because he, at times, “acts black” in that he dons Zulu tribal skins and dances around half naked with his people. In their white prejudiced eyes, his behaviour is undignified. However, it’s actually a way of connecting with his people and communicating with them that’s he’s still a Zulu, that he hasn’t forgotten who he is.
Those people probably have the same distaste for the famous “white Zulu” Johnny Clegg, who is a South African musician who mixed Western style music with African rhythms. Clegg is known for appearing on stage in Zulu tribal skins and dancing in their tribal style.
My point is that everyone, whether they are black, white or gay, should be free to be themselves without having a lot of hate directed at them because they are different.
I feel that in the Christian Community the greatest stumbling block to achieving tolerance, is an ingrained moral judgement against homosexuals. It’s become one of the most contentious debates in the modern Church and it is tearing the Church apart.
If you go back to the New Testament, in Jesus you will find a man who displays no prejudices towards anyone except the hypocrites, the people making moral judgements of others. But when you read further into the NT and you start reading the letters that Paul wrote, you come across moral judgement again. It is my opinion, that Paul was a false Apostle, inserted into the early Church, right at its very beginning, to poison its teachings and negate the teachings of the Christ.
Jesus would never have cast a single rock at a homosexual, but Paul was willing to damn them to Hell. I have to side with Jesus and conclude that Paul was the very kind of hypocrite that Jesus would have despised. I believe that Saul’s conversation was false. The destroyer of the Church merely changed tactics and discovered that he could do more harm to the early Church by infiltrating it and perverting its teachings.
And that is why today, instead of having a Church which shows people the Love of Christ, we have a Church that shows people the moral judgement of Saul / Paul.

Richard,
I appreciate your comments but I thing you have me mistaken. For one I’m not going to turn this into a debate about christianity. Secondly this is about acting out in a way that is possibly offensive to others. I’m the type who does things like changing/lowering my music when someone rides with me or make sure an environment isn’t uncomfortable for someone. I we in charge of 500 people at my last air force job. I would not allow the minority to set the atmosphere for the majority. Were there many unlike me? Certainly but what they do personally didn’t affect me.
Sorry for any typos; I’m banging this out on my phone.

Tom,
I think I actually agree with you here
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a homosexual or to let others know that are. But to constantly need to justify yourself and acting out is annoying. As much as he feels he needs to justify himself and let everyone know that he is gay almost makes me think he is actually straight. He is probably a very boring straight dude who didn’t get anywhere being that way and found a way get his 15 minutes of fame. Whether it’s ethics, sexual preference, work performance, weight, or public image. When someone has to constantly justify themselves they obviously have deep insecurities pertaining to the subject. They are often confused or hiding something.

This abs toning tool appears really awesome. I made a decision to try it out as I’ve read so much optimistic opinions on it. I found an article http://hubpages.com/hub/Where-To-Buy-Flex-Belt-Electronic-Abdominal-Toning-Device where they say that it’s good to buy it directly from their official website, so I am going to go this manner as it’s also quicker and easier for me.
