Is There Anything Worse Than Moving?
Written by: Tom Sawyer
Today is the first of two moving days. Yeah!
Actually, this is something to be happy and excited about. We are about to relocate; this should be the last time for many years, but more about that later. It is going to be nice to move somewhere and not worry about moving until we decide to move on our own. Why is that an issue? Because I work for our uncle.
After 20 years, I’m retiring from the Air Force and we will be moving out west. It is almost surreal – I’m happy about moving, happy about retiring, sad about leaving my co-workers and nervous about beginning a new way of living. Being in the Air Force for so many years has been great, but the plan has always been to retire after 20 years so I’m leaving on my own terms.
We are blessed to have the government move us one more time. I couldn’t imagine how I would be able to handle it if we had to pack our stuff and move it ourselves. It would be (more) work and it would put all the liability on us. When the government moves us the main thing we have to do is throw out old stuff and pack away the things we want to keep with us. Somehow things don’t go as easy as that seems.
It would be nice to be able to have someone move your stuff without damaging your personal property right? We have had things come up missing, couches broke (don’t ask) and even TVs with holes in them (the plastic cabinet). All of this before I got my LCD TV. I’m really going to watch how they pack my TV.
I’m going to go for now, but until tomorrw please check out our other site We Embrace. We are going to talk more about it soon.

I know what it’s like when uncle sends his buddy to come and pack you up for the big move. I know every time I’ve had to move I had to go around the house and record serial numbers as well as recording the items actually functioning. I’ve been lucky for the most part some damage on a dresser and a few other things. I’ve also had some items come up missing as well but what can you do. I’ll miss you around here, it was a plesure being able to work for you if only for a short time. There have only been a few bosses that I’ve had over my career so far that I have enjoyed working with and actually hate to see go. So thank you for all the good times and memories and good luck in the future. You served your 20 faithfully and now is your time to enjoy your retirment. We will do our best to keep things going for yooooooooooooooooouuuuuuu.

I know this probably sounds crazy but I love the whole moving experience. One of the happiest days of my life was the day my husband, son, our cat, and myself piled into a moving van and left California to move to Tennessee. Our house deal had fallen through the day before we left so we headed out with all our belongings and no place to put them when we arrived When we got there we were greeted by a terrible thunderstorm and we couldn’t find a hotel that allowed animals but in the end it all worked out . I love adventure and look at every new place as a blank palette just waiting to be painted. We are trying to sell our house right now so that we can move to the property we bought and I can’t wait to get started on a new adventure.

I think moving is the pits in some aspects…but a blessing if it’s to attain a dream and further your life in a positive way. You all had been talking about moving back to Vegas and you have accomplished that dream so smile and know that you are blessed to be able to do something millions only dream about!!! Blessings to you!

I agree with Elaine and Karolann. Recently moving to the South was an adventure and it was the pits! I thought my husband and I might divorce over the move! He is military and is use to moving and throwing stuff out with every move and keeping his possessions updated, if you will. I, on the other hand, was not military until I married him. When we moved March 2008, I had lived in my apartment for 10 years and had to go through everything – the good stuff, the bad stuff and the junk! My husband couldn’t handle it! The day Uncle Sam’s people came to move us was a horrible day! One of the movers told me late in the day she hadn’t seen my husband smile at all since she had been there!
But still yet, the adventure of it all and the promise of a new day was the silver lining! Now…. I won’t go into the less than perfect state (Georgia) I’ve landed in. You can read about it in my upcoming book tentatively called: Entering Georgia! (Sorry, I didn’t mean to make this all about me, pray my strength…)
I hope the West is the best! I pray you are in the right places, at the right time, talking to the right people, about the right things! May this phase of your life be everything you want it to be! God bless! God bless! God bless!
