Inauguration Package – $200,000 Discount
Written by: Tom Sawyer
The good news is you can get a four-ticket, four-day package to President-elect Obama’s inauguration for $200,000 less than President Bush charged. The bad news is it will still cost you $50,000.
Uh, wow!
Like many things in Washington DC, their is a committee who handles the inauguration. Of course, donations have been accepted – $9.7 million from 243 donors so far. The committe recently disclosed the donors names which include the likes of Robert Zemeckis, Sharon Stone and Jamie Foxx. Those celebrities donated the maximum which is $50,000.
“The committee has said it will not accept contributions from corporations, political action committees, labor unions, current federally registered lobbyists, non-U.S. citizens or registered foreign agents.”
This is what your $50,000 will get you:
- A nightclub performance on January 17th
- Brunch on January the 18th
- VIP seating at a concert on the 18th that will probably take place at the Lincoln Memorial
- Candlelight dinners around town with members of Congress and drop-ins by the Obamas on the 19th
- Four tickets to one of 10 official balls
- Tickets for the swearing-in and parade

Well this America, land of the capitalist and home of the rich.
But, seriously, no I don’t think that is an excessive amount, no. If ticket prices floated on the open market and were auctioned off, they’d probably top out at over $1 million, especially for this president.
I’m not sure what they do with the surplus, but I’m sure they have a lot of staff and suppliers to pay. Maybe they’ll donate what’s left over to charity?

Oh, here’s an interesting article: tinyurl dot com/5k6tg3
One hotel, The Mandarin Oriental, has booked out its presidential suite for $209 000 per night. And another, the Omni Shoreham Hotel , is offering a $440 000 package deal.
Fascinating to see how the rich live, and totally not unexpected.

If you’ve got the money and your one of the many (Excluding myself, wink wink Kim. lol) people who are excited about this president then sure it’s worth it. Regardless of who the president is I’d think it would be an amazing ceremony to experience first hand.

You all kidding. It cost that much???. That’s REDICULOUS. To put someone in the White House that doesn’t know what kind of dog he wants. He should look at his wife. With a mug like that he don’t need a dog. I won’t go even if they pay me.

Wow, that is pretty harsh Joe.
What does knowing what kind of dog he wants have to do with running the country? Do you know what kind of dog you would want? Assuming you do, factor in all the negative press he would get if he chose a dog that cost a lot of money or wasn’t from a shelter. Who is to say his daughters would even want a dog that would be acceptable to the public?
As far as his wife, no comment. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and she has had two daughters for him. Are you attracted to Barbara Bush or Hillary Clinton?

Tom I’m going to have to agree with you on this one. I’m far more concerned with his political and economic policy and decisions than I am of whether he gets a hypo allergenic dog. As far as his wife, I personally don’t like her one bit but she is a very pretty lady.

LOL Ryan! Even though I’m happy he won, I think that’s a lot of money. I’m not sure I would pay that much.

Not a dog conversation. lol. Wow. Let me just agree with Kim. That is a lot of money. Would we be paying for a human being or paying for the experience? If it is the latter, I truly believe, at the end of the day our memories are all we have. I love Obama, but still, what an expensive memomy.
