How Would You Interpret This Cartoon from the New York Post?

Okay, I think this is seriously uncalled for! What possible explanation can the NY Post give to explain this? Ok, what possible LEGITIMATE explanation can they give? Say and believe what you will about President Obama, but this is really wrong!
UPDATE: The NY Post defends the cartoon by stating, “The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington’s efforts to revive the economy.”

That’s flippin’ hilarious!
Don’t you know what this refers to? Some woman’s chimpanzee went nuts and cops shot it dead. So they’re saying that the stimulus bill was written by a chimpanzee and they just killed him. They’re not calling Obama a chimp.

Oh, ok. I thought they were saying Obama is the chimp that wrote the stimulus bill. I knew about the chimp that attacked the woman – are you sure they’re not saying Obama is a chimp?

Kim, I took it the way you took it except, especially without knowing the story of the woman and her chimp, I would use the word monkey! Chimp sounds kind of nice and this doesn’t seem nice at all.

Besides, Obama didn’t write the so called stimulus bill. Nancy (Lucifer) Pelosi did.

Of course some slight (very slight) sarcasm. I do hate that women with a passion though. Then we agree on the bill. It is our kids and our kids kids who will be left with figuring out how to repay this debt. That is if the US dollars value doesn’t make our currency completely useless.
I am very much pro military and the democrats did as they always do, screw the men and women of our military. Really? 8 Billion to build a high speed train from LA to Vegas but no money for veterans. Really?
This bill is so full of political favors that it makes me sick. Get ready for our dollar to hit all time lows and be prepared for inflation.

The stimulus bill was business as usual. Military cuts at a time when we need them most. Money to save marsh mice in SF. (It’s in there under an environmental package.) A rail line in California when people there don’t even use the public transportation they have now. They are all on the freeways in their gas guzzling SUV’s while the public transportation runs half empty. (I can’t speak for SF or LA but this is true in Sacramento.) You can build them but you can’t make people use them. They also used the stimulus bill to launch socialized medicine which will be nothing more than a bad HMO. We will lose good doctors, wait for months to have CT’s, MRI’s and other tests, and will only be able to see the doctors they choose for us. I’m just starting to read the bill and I’m sick to my stomach. And now ,with the mortgage bail outs to the irresponsible, the spending continues. We’ve always bought homes that were below what we could afford even though it was tempting sometimes to get bigger and better. And we did without in order to own a home. It really upsets me to see careless and irresponsible behavior rewarded while those of us who did the right thing get nothing. The 400 dollar tax credit barely covers the amount my husbands already lost because of the hours his employer is cutting. How does this motivate any of us to make more of ourselves and bring new businesses into our communities?

I didn’t see the picture until after I heard the story of the Chimp attacking the Lady but after seeing the picture I don’t believe it was intended as a slam against President Obama. Newspapers like the Post are very sensitive to perseved slights and the political environment. We as African-Americans have to get a little tougher skins about items like this if we are going to help the President to end racism in our country and it is our country since America was built on the backs of African-Americans.
