Charles Barkley Has a ‘Yes I Can’…..Moment

Written by: Kim Sawyer

President Obama!  Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it?  How about Governor Barkley?  Yes, I said Governor Barkley — Governor Charles Barkley that is!  It seems the retired NBA player is considering running for office in Alabama in 2014.  According to a recent interview, Barkley said, “I can’t screw up Alabama.  We are number 48 in everything, and Arkansas and Mississippi aren’t going anywhere.  With me at the helm of the state, there would be no place to go but up.”

Barkley went on to say his top priority would be education. “All the way education … the public school system in this country is the worst it has ever been and what that does is [that hurts] crime, it hurts the judicial system,” Barkley said. The Alabama native goes on to say: “You know if you don’t give people education and hope, they become criminals. They get involved in drugs. So we have got to fix the public school system. I think we need to make these neighborhoods safer. And the third thing, you have got to give people economic opportunity. America for far too long has a small group of people who have got all the money and then we got a bunch of poor people who have no money. And because we have killed the public school system they can’t get the education to make money, and that is just not right.”

Hmmm.  Let me be the first to say that I am not a fan of Charles Barkley.  In my opinion, he is extemely overbearing.  But, maybe that’s the type of person the state of Alabama needs at its helm.  I live not too far from Alabama and the people I’ve come in contact with are very low key.  And that’s one description that will never be associated with Charles Barkley – low key!  What do you think?  Would Sir Charles make a good governor?

    Not the most inspired or inspirational campaign platform to run on.

    He might as well say, “Vote for me in the Bikini Open, because although there’s no way I could possibly ever win, we’ve never placed anyway, so what the heck, more of the same, right?”

    That is what is known as a non-starter. Barkley = FAIL.

    But thanks for coming in, we’ll call you. *cough*

    Sir Charles has always been open and honest. While his comments might not be the most politically correct way to talk about a state he wants to run in, it is probably true.

    Maybe it is time for people like Barkley to be elected. Do we really think he has it in him to say he is going to do something and not do it? I think I will take brutal honesty over political smoke screens any day.

    @Tom: You want brutal honesty?

    How about I say, “I’m going to sit on my ass all day doing as little as possible except solicit bribes, feel up any woman who comes near me and smoke crack as often as possible. Vote for me!”

    Yeah.

    I think I want a little more sophistication from the leaders I vote for. Brutal honesty doesn’t cut it. I can get a truckload of brutal honesty by spending a couple of hours with drunk homeless people, doesn’t mean I’m going to give them a dime, much less a vote.

    wow Richard. I don’t think he meant that as a blanket generalization, I think he meant it as far as what Charles said, period. Now me personally, I love, love, absolutely love Charles Barkley! Do I think he would be a good governor? Yes, indeedy! I think playing any sport and making it to the professional level means, a few things: you have drive, determination, can stay focused, are disciplined, can take instruction, etc. Why not be governor! I know many don’t care for him, but he is a person that makes you listen to him whether you want to or not. Passive he is not and passive is not what 48th needs! I agree, surely he couldn’t do harm. His priorities sound good. If Arnold can do it, let Sir Charles have at it! I live next door in GA. I may not be here in 2014, but if I am, I look forward to it!

    I didn’t mean that brutal! Don’t people realize Charles is a TV personality, a hall of fame athlete and a guy who hasn’t got into any really big trouble?

    I think some of what he says is crazy, but planned. But I do get your point and I wouldn’t want someone that crazy. However, if anyone thinks politicians don’t do some of the things you mentioned I have some beach front property in Missouri for sale!
