Bring Back Discipline
Written by: Tom Sawyer
I’ve been noticing, for the past couple of years, a rapid decline in discipline. There are many specific instances I’ve noticed, but mainly it seems to be across the board.
Speaking of boards, would I want discipline brought back into schools via paddling? Yes. The only problem with that though is the people doing the paddling might not be disciplined enough to know when paddling is appropriate.
Are we in the situation we’re presently in because of discipline or a lack thereof? My answer to that would be yes also. We have been spending freely and lending institutions have been very willing to help us spend more. The result is a recession – officially as if we needed someone to make an official announcement.
People have been losing their jobs in many industries and thus disciplined is forced upon us; we can’t spend what we don’t have. We will see how this plays out, but I hope we get past this quick.
Where else do we need more discipline?

I agree that a lack of discipline has invaded in our society, but I don’t agree with bringing back paddling into schools. I don’t want anyone but me, my husband and certain family members disciplining my child. Now, that’s an area where maybe more discipline can be meted out. Some parents are afraid of disciplining their child for fear the child (or someone else for that matter) will call Child Protective Services on them. Some children even threaten their parents that they will call CPS if the parent disciplines them by spanking them!
I also think we need more discipline when we’re at work. Especially if you have a job where they really don’t monitor your internet usage (i.e. mainly government jobs). The discipline comes in to play when you should be working, but you’re on the internet, browsing various websites. Or better yet, doing school work on your job’s time. I will be the first to admit that I have a lack of discipline in this area sometime. But I’m determined to do better.:–)
