As an American, What Would You Like To See President-Elect Obama Do?
Written by: Kim Sawyer
Okay, so it’s been a few days now since history was made in America, but people are still talking about the election outcome. Just in case you have been living under a rock, out in space, incommunicado, etc., America has elected its very first Black President: President-Elect Barrack Obama! I’m still in the WOW phase, how about you?
Although we’re finished with the election process, America is still plagued with all sorts of issues: the economy is a hot mess, unemployment is at its highest in 14 years, the housing market is still terrible, yadda, yadda, yadda. Based on the obvious, it goes without saying that President-Elect Obama has a lot on his plate right? What I would like to know from you is: What issue would you like for President-Elect Obama to tackle first? Today, in his first press conference as President, he mentioned something about another stimulus package being passed to help the economy. How do you feel about that? Do you really think that’s going to help the economy? I mean President Bush thought a stimulus package would help and uh, it hasn’t.
As stated above, President-Elect Obama has a lot to do, but from your perspective, what do you feel are the pressing issues that need immediate resolution?
Oh, although we’re still in dire times here, there is one silver lining that has emerged during these troubling times: gas is now less than $3 per gallon. In fact, in some places it’s less than $2 per gallon. Yea! Isn’t that wonderful?!

I would like to see President-”Elect” Barack Hussein Obama keep his campaign promises. There is no reason he can’t get them all done. The Liberal Democrats control the House & Senate. So if Obama can’t get it done then he was just lying to everyone!

Kim,
First, the stimulus checks are a mistake as they were when Bush approved them. What does a stimulus check do? Well IMO it is like drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, it’s great for a pick me up but its effects are short and will not last. The problem with stimulus checks is that it is free money, meaning no one is going to turn it down and send it back, even me. However, it is a waste of tax payer’s money that could be spent on more important things, like I don’t know education, tax incentives, etc… This would be a great question to ask, what did you do with your last stimulus check? We paid down our debt which unless I’m not seeing the whole picture doesn’t do a whole lot for the economy. If you want to help the economy you need to create jobs, you do that by lowering corporate taxes or by creating huge tax breaks for companies who operate in the states. You have to do whatever it takes to entice companies to operate here instead of overseas where taxes and the cost of labor are much lower. Last I checked Obama is full speed ahead with letting the Bush tax cuts expire (I believe they expire Jan 2011, and will increase the lowest tax bracket from 10% to 15% – 50% increase – “If you make less than 200k you will not see your taxes increase”-Obama) which he has opposed from the beginning and he is also still planning on taxing those lazy and undeserving rich people more. (There rate is 36.3% which will rise to 39.6% when the Bush tax cuts expire and Obama hasn’t said how much more he plans on increasing it than that – Those selfish rich people need to give the government half of their money, it’s only fair.)(Hint of Sarcasm)
Obama does have a lot on his plate and has a nice helping of promises and misguided policies stacked on there as well. As far as gas goes it’s plummeting because of the state of the economy, horrible stock market, as well as consumption (increased unemployment as well which could help explain the decrease in consumption). The minute the economy rebounds at all it will go right back up but so I don’t sound like a total pessimist, I am enjoying the low prices.
I really wish I could wake up from this horrible dream but since it is reality the first thing I would like to see Obama do is to choose a cabinet that isn’t filled with all of his super liberal buddies and colleagues. (Judging by his first pick it’s not looking too good.)

Hi K_Main. Welcome to 7daybuzz. I, like you, am waiting to see how the campaign promises will be fulfilled. I also realize that politician’s say what they need to say to get elected, so……we’ll see.

Hey Ryan. First, let me say how sorry I am for your loss! :–) But, I knew I could count on you to provide a nice, informative post:–)
I take it from your post that you are not in agreement with Obama’s “spread the wealth” philosophy. I am in agreement with you about the stimulus checks – I don’t think they’re helpful. I also love the low prices on gas, but I realize the prices will eventually increase again.
Obama hasn’t taken over yet, so I will just sit back and wait to see how things progress.

Kim, thank you for your condolences. wink wink lol
I do want you to know that I am definitely opposed to the socialist ideology as well as the majority of what Obama stands for and that alone is the reasoning behind my disliking him.
I too grew old of the Bush administration (Bush lost me with the UAE port deal) and was quite excited when Obama first hit the main stream, unfortunately once his views and policies surfaced my excitement turned into something else entirely, fear. I’m sure I’ll get a chance to elaborate in future posts.

Why even go there? He needs to focus on the economy. I’m a republican primarily but I backed Obama because I believed he could fix the economic crises better than McCain. I agree that these detainees do not belong in an american court. The claim to be military and need to be tried by military courts in order to protect our sources and information gathering capabilities.
If Obama is truely planning to do this he is going to create adversity from both the right and left, something he doesn’t need this early, even prior to being inagurated.
