Another Indicator That Change Has Come…..
Written by: Kim Sawyer
This is why President Obama radiates hope to millions of people. On Monday, at the town hall meeting in Florida, a woman made the following emotional plea to the president, “I have an urgent need,” said the woman to the president. “We need something more than the vehicle and parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom, please help.”
This plea came from Henrietta Hughes, a Florida homeless woman, who has been living in her car. In 2003, her son lost his job and soon after, they lost their home. After making her plea to President Obama, he told her that, “we’re going to do everything we can” and that someone with him would talk to her after the town home meeting.
Well, it seems, after her heart-felt plea, Hughes now has a place to call home – if she so chooses. Senator Nick Thompson and his wife have offered Hughes a home, in Fort Denaud, Florida, after hearing her story at the town hall. The home is being offered to Hughes rent-free for as long as she needs it. It’s a 3-bedroom 2-bath house on three acres of land and it’s been vacant for more than a year.
After offering Hughes the home, Senator Thomson makes this following statement, ”I’m not a millionaire, I’m not rich, but this is what I can do for someone if they need it. We’re American. That’s what we’re supposed to do for each other. We’re supposed to help each other. So if I can help her, I will.”
Hughes is expected to look at the house for the first time in the next few days.
How wonderful is this?!!!! Isn’t this truly a blessing from heaven above?! This is what America and being an American is all about! America was founded on Godly principles (one of them being charity) and I love it when Americans display their generosity. It’s uplifting and inspirational. Well-done Obama! And last, but certainly not least, well-done Senator Nick Thomson and wife!

I am glad you posted this! Rarely do we hear of these kinds of things, more often just the bad. This takes generosity and brotherly love to another level! Gosh, I wish this story would get out for EVERY American to hear. Just like that, he offered what he had. If we all did that – and we don’t, well I don’t all the times I could – forget a bad economy! These kind of random acts of kindness perpetuate hope and promise, and things will get better!
I hope that family will pay it forward and bless somebody else, as they have been blessed

It’s funny how so many people fail to overlook what really happened here.
Instead of asking for a job for her or her son, educational assistance, or any other form of OPPORTUNITY, what did she do? Asked for a bailout just like the banks and auto makers. So nice of our government to assist her.
Lost his job in 2003? There were jobs available in 2003, may I ask why neither one of them got a job and then a cheap apartment? How is this women going to pay for her utilities, taxes, etc…?
You see hope, I see the lazy, delusional Americans who expect handouts.

As I stated in the post, this is what America is all about – helping and caring about others. I am definitely impressed by the senator’s generosity. And I don’t think he did it for recognition either, which is why I think what he did makes even more of an impact.

Ryan, you are so jaded! Let’s pretend President Obama was not mentioned in this post. Let’s pretend this happened while President Bush was president (long stretch, but let’s try). Would you still feel the same way? I think this is great. Sometimes, you help people just because you can. Not to judge them or to get exposure for it. Just because. I think this was a very unselfish act on the senator’s part and I applaud him (and his wife) for their actions. Not too many people would perform a selfless act like that.

To be perfectly honest, President Obama didn’t even cross my mind at any point while reading and responding to this post. The answer is YES! I would have felt exactly the same way.
Jaded?
Selfless?
What would really blow your mind is what would have happened if?
1.) The Senator walked past this women on the street begging for change?
2.) This women wasn’t covered by the media?
3.) This women asked for a job instead of a handout?
For the record: There are VERY few politicians who do selfless acts strictly for the good of humanity.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather see this lady get help than these God forsaken banks, auto companies, etc… but either way you are dealing with those who want handouts and aren’t willing to deal with the consequences of their own actions. Again, I reiterate….2003.

This actually illustrates one of the biggest problems we are facing in America today. People have become so dependent on government in every aspect of their lives that they no longer know how to help themselves. This works when you have more people working and paying taxes than the number you have on assistance. However, as our unemployment numbers continue to rise, who’s going to pay for welfare and unemployment? I’m sure this sounds mean to some of you but the truth is we help no one by keeping them dependent on the govt. We had a saying in our home, “if you want to eat you have to work my dear.” My boys got paper routes at age 7 and continued to work all the way to adulthood. They did not go to college because we couldn’t afford it and they could not qualify for any loans because we always made just a little too much for assistance. My husband and I worked at 2 or 3 jobs at times and I even went to work for months with an IV bag hanging over my head due to a chronic bone infection. I got into the medical field by offering to do filing for minimum wage at my local pediatricians office. I worked my way up by showing up for work everyday, on time, and giving 100% at every job I was given. I don’t care what politician is giving hand outs, I think it’s a big mistake. People do not appreciate what they don’t work for.

Hey Miss Elaine and Ryan. I’m about to surprise you both. Miss Elaine, I agree 100% with your saying, “if you want to eat you have to work my dear.” My mom followed (and continues to follow) this same concept. I’ve always worked. In high school, I always had a part-time job and I worked full-time in the summer. As an adult, I’ve worked 2 jobs at times. I’ve put myself through school by working full-time and going to school part-time. It’s ingrained in me that if I want something, I have to work for it. Now, having said all of that, I still believe there are times when you should just help people who need help – without judging, you know what I mean? I know there are people who abuse the welfare system (I know a few of them personally) and to those people, well, let’s just say I think they should be working instead of waiting for a paycheck. But there are those who genuinely need the system to help them get on their feet. This may be the case with this lady. I don’t know, but I’m not going to judge.
I have a baby girl. But trust me, when she gets of age, she will definitely be getting a job to learn the value of a dollar.

I think both sides of this argument are right. Americans need to get back to the basics and work hard, but I don’t really think it is that simple. If we work hard, we still need some help from the government.
I’m going to over-simplify things, but the rich need to slow their profits. If they took the approach that they will make less money, but make it for longer periods of time I think everyone would benefit. Just think how many jobs would be gained from doing this. For instance, if you called a company’s customer service department, “John” would really be someone named John.
I know Ryan is all for people making as much money as they can, but that thinking may be one of the reasons we are in the position we are in.
Once more jobs are created or brought back into the country, we need to have documentation on people who don’t help themselves. Even this lady who has been offered someplace to stay needs to have strings attached. If she is given a period of time to get on her feet, that house could be offered to the next person who needs time to get on their feet. To simply offer the lady someplace to stay is generous, but a mistake.
This situation is loosely related to many popular sayings:
Give a man a fish…teach a man to fish
Each one teach one
The bulls walking down the hill instead of running down the hill…

For the most part I agree with you Tom.
I won’t for a second deny that I wholeheartedly believe people should prosper as much as they can through hard work, passion, dedication, and so forth. I will NEVER support re-distributing the wealth of those who have earned their money. That’s just plain un-American.
In regards to your sayings. I have one for you my friend. I have a feeling you’ll like the source, The Bible:
When you plant seeds you sow them. Galatians 6:7
“A man reaps what he sows” (harvests what he plants, gets what he deserves)
I damn well would want to prep my land, plant seeds, water, and harvest something and then give nearly half of it away to people who had no part in the labor of growing the crops.
It’s very easy to see where all the actions listed above could interchange with actions like graduating High School (prepping the land), graduating College or Working to achieve something whether though ingenuity or hard work or a combination of both. (Watering and Harvesting). So why shouldn’t the people who work hard to achieve wealth and prosperity get to use as they see fit? Why do the wealthy have to carry those with little drive and determination? I for one am sick of this false sense of entitlement everyone has for the money of those more successful than themselves.
Going back to the origins of this post. I just happened across another clip of a McDonalds worker and OMG, this guy just made everyone think twice about buying an extra value meal. Pathetic. The government doesn’t owe people success. So he’s worked at McDonalds for four years with no advancement in his career. That’s not McDonalds fault, it’s not the governments fault, and damn well isn’t the fault of the wealthy. That is a pure lack of determination and if I’m being honest probably an overuse of drugs. I’m just sickened by both of the comments made at that town hall meeting. I’m sure there were a lot more but I honestly can’t stomach any more of them.

One last thing. In regards you blaming my way of thinking for the crisis we’re in. You are DEAD wrong. We are where we are because of a false sense of entitlement so many have. The community reinvestment act, banks being scared and at times forced into making risky loans, deadbeats not paying their mortgage, naive people not reading the terms of their loans, and much more. The bottom line is forcing banks to lend to low income people is what killed our economy. There are some people who should not be homeowners. I will tell you Obama represented the individual who sued Citibank for supposed discrimination on lending practices. (Obama and Redlining)http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/700499,CST-NWS-Obama-law17.article
The bottom line is being a homeowner isn’t an easy task. I know the whole 20% down payment requirement was a myth but ask yourself this. If there was a requirement to have 20% down before you could buy a house would we be in this mess? No, we wouldn’t. I’ll be the first to admit, we should have been able to purchase our home either. We didn’t put anything down but we do pay our bills and will continue to do so until there are no more jobs left. If you want to help minorities and low income give them an education to help them succeed, but you can’t force someone to learn. A perfect example is a good friend of mine. His parents were loaded, mine were not. His parents offered to pay for any college he wanted to attend but he declined. At the same time I was struggling to afford books at the local community college. I didn’t envy his families wealth, I just knew I had to work a little bit harder. Some people will decide to pass on education but that is the gateway to breaking the social gap, not forcing home ownership.

I personally find it a huge news. The split of Citigroup into Citicorp and Citi Holdings is interesting, and I’m not sure how much difference will be there for a Citibank customer. So Citicorp, the name of the company which merged with Travelers Group…

Money A single auto mortgage terms include 30, 60 and 72 months. Cash One particular, in contrast to other firms I’ve done home business with is completely inflexible when it comes to adjusting there costs. Even when the large charges are ensuing from all with the tiny hidden costs they’ve. Funds 1 Financial is also involved with instalment lending, healthcare financing, and small online business lending activities.

How much capital do I call for to start my online vendue land site, I have a very ecological niche market (Don’t desire to say it) and I think I could do it all by myself, if not just paying for someone to get the computer code for the auction and then being done with it.
