After You

Ge 13:5 ¶ And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
10 ¶ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
• There was no reason for the herdsmen to love, so they strove. For Abram, the best reason to be at peace was brotherhood.
• Love cannot stand fury and dissension because of what it does to unity, continuity with you and the other fellow.
• Unselfish people look for solutions to strife. The most workable and immediate solution to strife is for someone to remove themselves.
• Abraham preferred Lot to be comfortable first. Which part he got after the division of property did not matter.
• Peace prevails when people love each other to the same degree that they love themselves, but love them enough to prefer for the other man, what they would prefer for themselves.
• The questions we should ask ourselves under such circumstances are:
o Is this the way I would like it?
o Is this the way I want to be treated
o Is this the same quality that I prefer for myself?
Jg 16:6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
7 And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
10 And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.
11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.
13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
14 And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;
17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man
• Delilah had a personal reason for loving Samson.
• Love has no personal agenda apart from expressing itself. Quality love operates in that selfless manner.
• Beware of anyone who ask many questions. What do they desire to do with that information?
• People who are unselfish in their love are not intrusive. Neither do they desire to know information that weakens the person they love or makes them vulnerable in any way
• People who have your information are in a position to harm you with it. Therefore people who truly love you do not desire to be privy to potentially painful information—unless necessary.
• On the other hand, the more deeply we love, the more of our self begins to disappear as we begin to divulge information although it is unsolicited..
• Because we love, there is a free flow of information as withholding of self is no longer a matter.
Lu 19:2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
Converted heart: (Zacchaeus)
• Gave it away
• Love outgives and goes beyond what is required.
• He basically removed himself from all offense
• The love of Jesus brought brokenness and contriteness to Zacchaeus
• Unselfishness eliminates stinginess.
The love of Jesus
• Jesus came to save and to do for men what he would have wanted them to do for him had he been in the same situation.
• Jesus did not want Zacchaeus to feel as though he were less than everyone, but the people wanted him to feel bad.

Wow. I guess when we go to church and happen to sit in someone’s “regular” seat they aren’t showing love when they look at you crossed. I’ve heard many times, church people should be showing love all the time, but are often some of the meanest people around.
It makes sense to be cautious when someone you don’t know well asks many personal questions. How many of us have been hurt by someone who knows some personal/private information about us? Sometimes people use information as a weapon – clearly not love. On the other hand, when you love someone the information comes out whether the other person asks for it or not.

People today (especially “religious” people) are too much into “what’s in it for them”. Often it’s not a question of love, but of being humble enough to put others first.

I could say so many thing about this post. It is wonderful. The one thing I will say is what my mother used to say, love is an action word…

When you are selfish, you will not be able to love, as the post is telling you to do. Simply because a selfish person puts self FIRST in most, if not every, situation. This post is saying to love others as you love yourself. How many people are willing to do that? As soon as someone feels they’ve been disrespected, any goodwill towards loving the person who “disrespected” them is long gone. I agree that love is an action word, but how many people, especially church people, that you’ve come into contact with, show this action? That would be an interesting poll – How many people who say they are a Christian, that you’ve personally had interaction with, actually show love towards others?

Wow! I just finished a really long response to this and lost it when I tried to add my picture. Anyway…. Love is so important! We have to give it from the cradle to the grave. Just like we want to receive it our entire lives. It determines who our children become, which is a direct result of the love we received as children. God’s love is unconditional and everlasting and though we’re not perfect like he is, we should strive to follow his examples of showing love to everyone, regardless of what kind of person they are or how they treat you.

Thank God for his mercy and grace because loving others especially those who dont love you is hard. Now I think we can all say that its easy to love those who love us but that’s not what God is looking at. Its the ability to put oneself down at the face of anger and hatred and still be loving towards those who are not loving. He wants to see how we react or act towards the one who dumps us, to the cashier with the attitude, to the client who is racist, sexist, etc. This is the true test. Its an every day challenge.

I just find out something extra complicated on various personal blogs on a daily basis. It’ll always be stimulating to read articles from other authors and exercise a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some of your respective content on my web site in case you don’t mind. Of course I’ll provide you with a hyperlink on my site. Nice one for posting.
