Afghanistan’s President Keeps The Country Far From Civilized
Written by: Tom Sawyer
Third World is a categorical label used to describe states that are considered to be underdeveloped in terms of their economy or level of industrialization, globalization, standard of living, health, education or other criteria for ‘advancements‘. This, according to Wikipedia, but truer words have never been spoken.
Although it is blamed on religious beliefs, their culture or other historic reasons, many countries in the Middle East are underdeveloped in terms of how they interact with each other – specifically, the interaction between men and women.
In 1996 I was in Saudi Arabia for about 3 months and experienced how women are treated and thought of in that country. A cab driver told me that his son was more important than his wife in so many words. For instance, when the family went somewhere, he told me his son rode in the front and his wife was in the back. I also noticed how the men were with each other more than they would be out with their wives. Hmm, I’m going to leave that one right their.
Take a good look at the gentleman in the picture. His name is Hamid Karzai and he is the current president of Afghanistan. He may very well be one of those who think that we – anyone who doesn’t believe like he does – are the devil. To that I would say he needs to look in the mirror long and hard because his actions are devilish to say the least.
In fact, some people in Afghanistan think things are worse than when the country was ran by the Taliban. That is pretty bad.
Karzai is rumored to have signed a law that would place many restrictions on women. Here are some of the changes that could possibly be included:
- Only fathers and grandfathers are granted custody of children under the law, according to the United Nations Development Fund for Women.
- Women can only seek work, education or doctor’s appointments with their husband’s permission.
- Husbands can legally rape their wives.
I will repeat that last one, husbands can legally rape their wives.
People rape for their emotions mainly. There are several different reasons why people rape.
- For their own pleasure.
- To get revenge.
- Hate over an event that has/will happen.
- To ease hate.
- Due to the loss of hope.
- Hormones.
- To make the victim suffer.
- Due to the rapest wanting sexual intercorse with their partner, but their partner breaks up with them before doing so.
- And the most evilest, to cause pain to another being.
- Control
I don’t understand why one of these reasons would be part of a healthy marriage. Of course for rape to occur, legal or not, the marriage is obviously not healthy. To me, this is giving men license to commit a crime, a sick emotional crime, without the threat of being punished. It is also stripping what remains or those womens’ rights.
I would like to hear a female opinion on this subject, but I already know how I feel. Coming from a husband with what I like to think is a stable mind, there is nothing pleasurable, sexy and/or fun about the thought of raping someone – especially my wife!

Great article you no other religions or cultures may see women as property, but not our God…. He calls us heirs…. When we marry, we are not the property of our husband, but we are one with our husband… We give ourselves to our husbands just as they give to us… It's just beautiful…The believing husband is commanded to love his wife just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her…He is commanded to love his wife as his own body because “no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church.” What about if the wife is withholding sexual relations from her husband? Is that sin? Yes, it is…. As Paul tells us, I should fulfill my marital duty to my husband… I should be concerned for his well-being. I should not be self-seeking…. But can my sin “cause” his sin? Yes it can. What does love look like? 1 Corinthians 13 tells us–patient, kind, not self-seeking and always protecting… The very act of forcing a wife to have sex violates all of these commands: it takes instead of gives; it hates and hurts his own body; and it is the height of self-seeking, impatient harm. I Am so glad to be an American!

Christianity isn't that respectful of women either. St. Paul's contribution to the New Testament essentially reduces the status of women to second class citizens, something that Jesus, Himself, never did.
Some Christians believe that a man has absolute marital rights over his wife, as her head, and therefore she may not lawfully refuse him sex. That is why the old South African Apartheid government, which was based on Calvinism, did not allow women to lay a charge of rape against their husbands.
So it's not just those dirty Muslims, it's Christians too, who deny women their full human rights.

Richard,
I'm glad that the new system is allowing you to comment again.
Regardless of religion, what do you think about a law legalizing
rape? I think it is wrong no matter what.

Hey Richard, welcome back. Yep, you're right about the legalisms in Christianity (or religious groups as a whole). But we're talking about a president of a country making it a law! Here in the US, that wouldn't happen (or at least, I don't think it could ever happen in my life time).

Ditto for me!

There will always be people who twist and turn the scriptures to suit themselves but the majority of Christian men do not think of their wives as second class citizens and the bible certainly does not teach that. The bible teaches us to love, respect, and honor each other Some people think its ok to bomb abortion clinics but the scriptures don't teach that either. There is a lot of wrong going on around the world but the truth is we really can't change what is going on in Afghanistan or anywhere else for that matter. What we can do is get down on our knees and thank God for our country and the freedoms we still enjoy.

I think it is funny how you bring that up Ann. I know women who have used sex – withholding and giving – to get the husband to buy a washer and dryer, living room furniture, etc. And I know men who persist in getting sex when his wife says no. But because they are Christians (I guess), the wife gives in. Question is, if she doesn't want to at that particular time, for whatever reason, and says no, but gives in and no violence or ugliness takes place, is that still considered rape? Does no always mean no? And if no isn't respected, has that American Christian man raped his wife?
The treatment of women in third world countries is awful and there aren't any American women I know that would stand for it. But then again, we are products of our environments. They are used to it. I went to Belize City, Belize for six days in 2004. One of the biggest offenses there is men have babies with women only to leave them and not take care of the child. And their government does not make them. Rarely do you see a man and woman marry and have children together. Even the men you would consider “good men” operate this way.
It would behoove us all – American women – to never find ourselves having to live in or visit those places!
